Portage Aircraft Maintenance Ltd opened its doors in 2004 to answer the need for a maintenance facility specializing in the growing number of turbine Air Tractor aircraft entering Canada. The company is owned and operated by Dave Frisch, who grew up on a mixed grain and livestock farm in Manitoba and began his ag flying career in 1999. Operating from an 18,000-square-foot, climate-controlled facility with its own 3,100-foot paved runway east of Portage la Prairie, Portage Aircraft serves ag aviation operators across Canada.
Portage Aircraft Specialties is the exclusive Canadian Air Tractor dealer, supplying new and used aircraft in the 400, 500, 600, and 800-gallon capacity range powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 turboprop engines. The company was also appointed as the first Pratt & Whitney Canada Designated Maintenance Facility (DMF) in Canada focused on agricultural customers, offering line maintenance and Mobile Repair Team services for PT6A-AG engine models. Services include aircraft setup, airframe repair, avionics, compressor washes, inspections, hot section and borescope inspections, ELT and pitot static testing, pattern testing with Accupatt and DropletScan systems, and IBC leak testing.
As an authorized Satloc dealer, Portage Aircraft specializes in new aircraft setup and GPS installations to customize aircraft to customers’ operational requirements. Canadian aerial applicators can source both their Air Tractor aircraft and Satloc guidance equipment through a single Canadian-based dealer. For more information, visit portageaircraft.ca.
